Feedback for Toulouse - September 2009
The first day of the program at Toulouse, we covered polymerisation techniques of polymethylmethacralate (PMMA), basic techniques in under water iris painting, psychological approach to the Maxilla Facial prosthetics, the psychological approach of blindness and a thought about the aesthetics and functional handicap.
A very interesting discourse was delivered by Jerome Malaplate when he discussed the influence of growth and posture with respect to one eyed patients and psychological chains. More fabrication techniques were discussed with regards to scleral shell prostheses as well as surface modifications during fabrication of acrylic eye prostheses.
David Carpenter delivered a paper on “Fitting an ocular prosthesis after osteo odonto keatoprosthesis surgery – a tooth for an eye”.
On the second day, the discussions started with surgical treatment of anophthalmia, and then something that has been queried a lot in recent months: “the treatment of post evisceration socket syndrome by lipostructure”. This was delivered by P.
Amexind, J.L. Arne, J.P. Adenis.
Another interesting take was the digitisation of the iris dry impression and doctor Roed Rasmussen continued her discussion with respect to assessing late post operative complications after enucleation and evisceration, Pain after eye amputation, results from an interview study. It proved to be very interesting.
Pediatric tumors were discussed and we delivered a paper on Retino blastoma from stages 0 through to 3, here in South Africa.
Doctor Julian Douat delivered a paper on the Müller muscle flap for repair of hydroxyapatie orbital implant exposure.
As usual we have found a lot of encouragement from attending these lectures with some interesting new light shed on these topics.
